Over The Rainbow
Over The Rainbow brings together the international waacking and queer dance community in Het Depot, for a day full of expression, energy, and connection. You can dance along or come to support and enjoy the most talented dancers from home and abroad. Don’t miss the fantastic afterparty!
Waacking is a dance style that originated in the underground gay clubs of Los Angeles in the 1970s. The style draws inspiration from the glamorous movie stars of the 1920s-1960s and revolves around poses, rhythm, and ‘expression from oppression’ – dance as a form of resistance against exclusion.
We kick off with a workshop on ‘What is community’ by Katerina Ourda, a pioneer of the Belgian waacking scene. This is followed by an inspiring Q&A panel with international judges, hosts, and a DJ. The main program features a powerful dance battle in three categories: Waacking Beginners, Waacking Open, and Queer Only All Styles with queer dancers from other genres such as hip hop, house, vogue, locking, popping, break…
Let’s move. Let's meet. Let’s battle. Let’s celebrate.
